FESTIVE PINAFORE COSTUME FROM THE VILLAGE OF STARO STEFANOVO, LOVECH REGION

The beginning of the XIXth century. The costume is from the collection of Tanya Kirovska - Gramatikova, a true connoisseur and researcher of the next costumes from Northern Bulgaria. You can view the calendar here. The costume dressed the beautiful girl Denitsa Kirovska. The costume, worn by young and middle-aged women, consists of a long shirt, a soukman (pinafore), a vest, an apron, a belt with buckles, stockings and a headscarf. The shirt is tunic-shaped with embroidered decoration on the sleeves, bosom and skirt. Large floral motifs are embroidered at the bottom of the sleeves and fine geometric motifs along the length of both sides. The soukman (pinafore) is of black woollen cloth, the bosom, sleeves and skirts are circled with blue and black gaitans. A short vest of brownish silk is worn over the soukman (pinafore). The apron is wool with brown and blue lines. A woven wool belt is worn over the vest. The headscarf is brown and is tied on top of the head of a "feather" or "pepper".

FESTIVE PINAFORE COSTUME FROM THE VILLAGE OF STARO STEFANOVO, LOVECH REGION

I grew up in a family where we respect folk traditions. One Christmas Eve we were all dressed in traditional costumes, and carolers came. It was different and very nice. The feeling when you hear a folk song or see several slender and young girls and the boy playing people in beautiful folk costumes that keep everything Bulgarian in them is indescribable. The feeling of wearing a costume for more than 100 years cannot be described, because when you look at it and think how much time and effort is put into it for every detail, stitch, bead. You just sit speechless and rejoice that you have the opportunity to touch something so beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

I would wear the costume again and at every opportunity.

What is Bulgaria for me? Incredible beauty - this is Bulgaria! "
